Subject: Skipping Or Will Not Read Discs Due To Road                       Date: November 18, 1994
            Induced Vibrations.


Symptom:
  (51)          Road vibrations cause the unit to skip, or in some instances may cause the disc to be
                ejected, with the word "ERROR" appearing on the display.



Solution:       This problem may be caused by early versions of MD boards. If the customer
                complains of this problem, identify the version of IC514 mounted on the MD board. If
                the version is less than "uPD78136GF-031-3B9" replace the MD board. The new
                MD boards have the same part number as the originals, but are mounted with the
                improved version of IC514.

                If the customer's unit already contains version "uPD78136GF-031-3B9", use standard
                troubleshooting methods to correct the problem.

                Note 1: The boards being shipped from the National Parts Center are not factory
                adjusted, and therefore must have all adjustments performed as shown in the service
                manual.

                Note 2: The original MD board cannot be upgraded by changing IC514 to the
                improved version.
