Subject: Battery does not charge up all the way: Add the Date: May 2, 1995

Symptom:
(**) Battery is not able to operate unit for more than two hours even though battery was
fully charged (charged for more than 4 hours)
Solution: Replace Resistor R424 in the Charge Detection circuit with the Charge Bd. Mount kit
and perform the following modification procedure.

Procedure: Set the variable resistor on the CHGA board counterclockwise, until the resistance
measured between the CHGA board's leads is at a minimum (about 10K).
Remove R424 and solder the leads of the CHGA board in its place.

Adjustment: 1)Place a jumper between the collector -1 of Q411 and the emitter-2 of Q309.
2) Apply between 3.95 to 3.98 VDC to the rechargeable battery terminals.
3) Press the "STOP" button to make sure the unit is in the charge conditions.
4) Monitor IC801/pin 69, it should be high. Turn the variable resistor clockwise on
the CHGA bd until IC801/pin 69 goes low.
5) Adjust the voltage at the battery terminals to 3.8V DC. Confirm that IC801/pin 69
changes from low to high.
6) Gradually increase the voltage insuring IC801/pin 69 goes from high to low when
the voltage is again between 3.92 and 3.98 V
7) Remove the jumper.
