Subject: Note when replacing an Optical Block                                   Date: March 25, 1996


Symptom:
  (62)          After replacing an optical block, two to three minutes into playing back a 74 minute
                MO disc, "Retry Error" will be displayed and the sound will skip.



Solution:       There are two types of Optical block assemblies. In the old type a washer was added
                to limit the travel of the optics on the shaft. The new type of Optical block assembly
                has been improved and does not require the washer. Remove the white washer (see
                diagram below) from the shaft when replacing an older Optical block with the new
                type. To distinguish the difference between the old and new optical blocks see the
                diagram below.
