Subject: Optical Unit Replacement                                                     Date: February 2, 2000


Symptom:
 (1381)                Optical Unit is damaged by heat



Solution:              Polarizing plate will be damaged if airflow control plates are not installed.
                       New optical units are not shipped with airflow control plates. When replacing the
                       optical unit use airflow control plates from former unit. Install the airflow control plates
                       as follows:

                       Installation Procedure

                       1.      On bottom of optical unit remove four screws which attach the airflow control
                               plates.

                       2.      Remove the two airflow control plates, A Plate (4-055-122-03) and B Plate
                               (4-054-912-01) from former unit.

                       3.      Install airflow control plates into new unit using four screws from step 1.
