PRECAUTIONS
PRECAUTIONS PFP:00001
Precautions for Liquid Gasket ABS000Q7
REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET SEALING
q After removing the mounting bolts and nuts, separate the mating
surface using a seal cutter and remove the liquid gasket sealing.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
q In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer
to lightly tap the areas where the RTV Silicone Sealant is
applied.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason a tool such as a flat-bladed
screwdriver is used, be careful not to damage the mating sur-
faces. PBIC0002E
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper, remove the old RTV Silicone Sealant adhering
to the gasket application surface and the mating surface.
q Remove the RTV Silicone Sealant completely from the groove of
the gasket application surface, mounting bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Thoroughly clean the gasket application surface and the mating
surface removing any adhering moisture, grease and foreign
material.
3. Attach the RTV Silicone Sealant tube to the tube presser.
q Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer toGI-48,
"RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS" PBIC0003E
.
4. Apply the sealant without breaks to the specified location with
the specified dimensions.
q If there is a groove for the sealant application, apply the gasket
to the groove.
EMA0622D
q As for the bolt holes, normally apply the gasket inside the holes.
Occasionally, it should be applied outside the holes. Make sure
to read the text of this manual.
q Within five minutes of gasket application, install the mating com-
ponent.
q If the RTV Silicone Sealant protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
q Do not retighten after the installation.
q Wait 30 minutes or more after installation before filling the
engine with oil and coolant.
CAUTION: SEM164F
Follow all specific instructions in this manual.

Inspection ABS000QC
OIL LEVEL
NOTE:
q Before starting the engine, put vehicle horizontally and check
the oil level. If the engine is already started, stop it and allow 10
minutes before checking.
q Check that the oil level is within the range as indicated on the
dipstick.
q If it is out of range, add oil as necessary.
PBIC0249E
NOTE:
When checking oil level, insert level gauge with its tip aligned with oil
level gauge guide on cylinder head. (In figure, air cleaner case and
air duct are removed.)
KBIA1343E
OIL APPEARANCE
q Check the oil for white turbidity or heavy contamination.
q If the oil becomes turbid and white, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with coolant.
OIL LEAKAGE
Check for oil leakage around the following areas:
q Oil pan
q Oil pan drain plug
q Oil pressure sensor
q Oil filter
q Oil cooler
q Intake valve timing control cover and intake valve timing control solenoid valve
q Mating surface between cylinder block and cylinder head
q Mating surface between cylinder head and rocker cover
q Mating surface between front timing chain case and rear timing chain case
q Mating surface between rear timing chain case and cylinder block

OIL PRESSURE CHECK
WARNING: A
q Be careful not to burn yourself, as engine oil may be hot.
q Put the selector lever in the Park "P" position.
1. Check oil level. Refer to LU-6, "Inspection" . LU
2. Remove undercover with power tool.
3. Disconnect oil pressure sensor harness connector.
C
4. Remove oil pressure sensor.
D
E
PBIC1127E
F
5. Install pressure gauge.
6. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
7. Check oil pressure with engine running under no-load. G
Engine speed Approximate discharge pressure
rpm kPa (kg/cm2 , psi) H
Idle speed More than 98 (1.0, 14)
2,000 More than 294 (3.0, 43)
I
6,000 More than 392 (4.0, 57)
SLC926
If difference is extreme, check oil passage and oil pump for oil
leaks. J
8. After the inspections, install the oil pressure sensor as follows:
a. Remove the old liquid gasket adhering to sensor and engine.
b. Apply liquid gasket and tighten the oil pressure sensor to specification. K
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-48, "RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PROD-
UCTS AND SEALANTS" .
