Precautions for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT
BELT PRE-TENSIONER" AHS0001K
The Supplemental Restraint System such as "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER", used along B
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS
system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front C
air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and whether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.
Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of this Service Man-
ual.
WARNING: D
q To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death
in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be per-
formed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer. E
q Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to per-
sonal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air
Bag Module, see the SRS section. F
q Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harness connec-
tors.
G
Precautions for SRS "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER" Service
AHS0001L
q Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS circuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual. SRS
q Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 min-
utes.
For approximately 3 minutes after the cables are removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt I
pre-tensioner to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes
have passed.
q Diagnosis sensor unit must always be installed with their arrow marks "" pointing towards the front of the
vehicle for proper operation. Also check diagnosis sensor unit for cracks, deformities or rust before instal- J
lation and replace as required.
q The spiral cable must be aligned with the neutral position since its rotations are limited. Do not attempt to
turn steering wheel or column after removal of steering gear. K
q Handle air bag module carefully. Always place driver and front passenger air bag modules with the pad
side facing upward and seat mounted front side air bag module standing with the stud bolt side facing
down. L
q Conduct self-diagnosis to check entire SRS for proper function after replacing any components.
q After air bag inflates, the front instrument panel assembly should be replaced if damaged.
q Always replace instrument panel pad following front passenger air bag deployment. M
Precautions for Battery Service AHS00099
This vehicle is equipped with the automatic window adjusting function. When a door is opened, the window
automatically lowers slightly to avoid contact between the window and the side roof panel. After the door is
closed, the window will automatically raise slightly.
On vehicles equipped with the automatic window adjusting function, lower both the driver and front passenger
side windows before disconnecting the battery cables. This will prevent interference between the side window
and the roof panel when either door is opened/closed.
CAUTION:
After the battery cables are disconnected, do not open/close the driver and/or front passenger door
with the window in the full up position. The automatic window adjusting function will not work and the
side roof panel may be damaged.

PRECAUTIONS
Trouble Diagnosis Precaution AHS0001M
When you read wiring diagrams, refer to the following:
q GI-15, "How to Read Wiring Diagrams" in GI section
q PG-4, "POWER SUPPLY ROUTING CIRCUIT" in PG section
When you perform trouble diagnosis, refer to the following:
q GI-11, "HOW TO FOLLOW TEST GROUPS IN TROUBLE DIAGNOSES" in GI section
q GI-27, "How to Perform Efficient Diagnosis for an Electrical Incident" in GI section
Check for any service bulletins before servicing the vehicle.

The air bag deploys if the diagnosis sensor unit activates while the ignition switch is in the ON or START posi-
tion.
The collision modes for which supplemental restraint systems are activated are different among the SRS sys-
tems. For example, the driver air bag module and front passenger air bag module are activated in a frontal col- K
lision but not in a side collision.
SRS configurations which are activated for some collision modes are as follows;
L
SRS configuration Frontal collision Left side collision Right side collision
