PRECAUTIONS
PRECAUTIONS PFP:00001
Precautions for Liquid Gasket EBS00F3X
REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET SEALING
q After removing the mounting bolts and nuts, separate the mating
surface using a seal cutter and remove the sealant.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
q In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer
to lightly tap the areas where the sealant is applied.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason a tool such as a flat-bladed
screwdriver is used, be careful not to damage the mating
surfaces.
PBIC0002E
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper, remove the old sealant adhering to the mating
surface.
q Remove the sealant completely from the groove, mounting
bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Thoroughly clean the mating surface removing any adhering
moisture, grease and foreign material.
3. Attach the sealant tube to the tube presser.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-
43, "RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEAL-
ANTS" .
PBIC0003E
4. Apply the sealant without breaks to the specified location with
the specified dimensions.
q If there is a groove for the sealant application, apply the seal-
ant to the groove.
EMA0622D
q As for the bolt holes, normally apply the sealant inside the
holes. Occasionally, it should be applied outside the holes.
Make sure to read the text of service manual.
q Within five minutes of sealant application, install the mating
component.
q If the sealant protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
q Do not retighten after the installation.
q After 30 minutes or more have passed from the installation, fill
the engine with the proper oil and coolant. Refer to MA-10,
"RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS" . SEM159F

ENGINE OIL
ENGINE OIL PFP:KLA92
Inspection EBS00F42
OIL LEVEL
q Before starting the engine make sure the vehicle is parked on a
flat and level surface, then check the oil level. If the engine is
already running, turn it off and allow 10 minutes before check-
ing.
q Check that the oil level is within the low (L) and high (H) range
as indicated on the dipstick.
q If the engine oil level is out of range, add oil as necessary. Refer
to MA-10, "RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS" .
JMA122D
OIL APPEARANCE
q Check the oil for white turbidity or heavy contamination.
q If the oil becomes turbid and white, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with coolant.
OIL LEAKAGE
Check for oil leakage around the following areas:
q Upper and lower oil pan
q Oil pan drain plug
q Oil pressure switch
q Oil filter
q Oil cooler
q Water pump cover
q Timing chain tensioner cover
q Intake valve timing (IVT) control cover
q Front cover
q Mating surface between cylinder block and cylinder head
q Mating surface between cylinder head and rocker cover
q Crankshaft oil seal (front and rear)
OIL PRESSURE CHECK
WARNING:
q Be careful not to burn yourself, as engine oil may be hot.
q For M/T models, put the gearshift lever in the Neutral "N" position. For A/T models, put the selec-
tor lever in the Park "P" position.
1. Check the engine oil level.
2. Disconnect the oil pressure switch harness connector.
3. Remove the oil pressure switch.
4. Install the pressure gauge.
SLC926
5. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
LU-6
ENGINE OIL
6. Check oil pressure with engine running under no-load.
A
Engine Speed Approximate Discharge Pressure
Idle speed More than 98 kPa (1.0 kg/cm2 , 14 psi)
2,000 rpm 294 kPa (3.0 kg/cm2 , 43 psi) LU
CAUTION:
If the difference is extreme, check the oil passages and oil pump for leaks and blockages. C
7. After the inspections, install the oil pressure switch as follows:
a. Remove the old sealant adhering to switch and engine.
b. Apply thread sealant and tighten the oil pressure switch to specification using Tool. D
Use Genuine High Performance Thread Sealant, or equivalent. Refer to GI-43, "RECOMMENDED
CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS" .
