2. Ignition Switch


2. Ignition Switch
A: DESCRIPTION
The ignition key warning system is adopted.
D When driver opens the door with the ignition key in "LOCK" or "ACC" position, warning alarm
sounds to warn the driver
D In manual transmission vehicle, two stage steering lock is adopted to improve safety in key op-
eration. When turning the ignition key from "ACC" to "LOCK" position, it is necessary to push the
key into the key cylinder (arrow 1 in the illustration) and then turn the key to "LOCK" position (arrow
2).
D Automatic transmission vehicles are equipped with a key interlock mechanism to prevent erro-
neous operation. Ignition key can be turned to "LOCK" position only when select lever is set to P
position.
NOTE:
If the key cannot be turned to "LOCK" position although select lever is in P position (because of
key interlock system failure), the key interlock system must be cancelled by key interlock release
lever which is located at the lower side of the steering column.
