Functional Characteristics


This publication describes the organization and the functional
characteristics of the IBM 8ystem/360 Model 91, an information-
processing system designed for ultrahigh-speed, large-scale sci-
entific and business applications.
   The system components are described, and a detailed con-
sideration is given to the functions of processor storage, the
central processing unit, the input/output channels, and the op-
erator-control and operator-intervention portions of the system
control panel. In addition, certain coding and timing considera-
tions are discussed.
   The reader is assumed to have a knowledge of information-
processing systems. and to have read the IBM System/360 Prin-
ciples of Operation, Form A22-6821.

THIRD EDITION
This is a major revision of, and obsoletes, Form A22-6907 -1. The descriptions
of the controls and indicator lights in the "System Control Panel" section
have been rearranged into alphabetical sequence. New information and
significant changes are identified by vertical lines to the left of the added
and changed text. Changes to illustrations are indicated by the symbol
