                  Customer Information
                  Control System (CICS)
Program Product Operations Guide
                  Program Number 5734-XX7 (OS-STANDARD V2)

The IBM Customer Information Control System (CICS) is
                  a transaction-oriented, multiapplication data base/data
communication interface between a System/360 or Sys-
tem/370 operating system and user-written application
programs. In addition to the functions required for in-
quiry and conversational data entry, this open-ended,
table-controlled, event-driven system provides many of
the facilities necessary for standard terminal applications
such as message switching, broadcasting, data collection,
                  and order distribution.

CICS is available in three systems-two for DOS users
and one for OS users. Because the two CICS/DOS systems
are compatible with each other and with the CICS/OS sys-
tem, it is possible to start with a small data base/data com-
munication configuration and move up through DOS into
                  OS.

This manual provides information of interest to persons
responsible for the definition, preparation, and execution
of CICS. Included is the information necessary to gener-
                  ate and operate CICS.
This publication contains information necessary for generating and
operating the CICS/OS-STANDARD V2 program product. It provides system
analysts, system ~rogrammers, and customer operating personnel with
information that is primarily operating system dependent; for example,
the job control language (JCL) required to unpack the machine-readable
material and to perfcrm system generation.
This publication should be used in conjunction with the System
Programmer's Eeference ~anual when generating CICS and when preparing
the system tables that describe the envircnment CICS is to support.
