Timing Belt
 Inspection                                                   Tension Adjustment
 1.   Remove the left upper cover.                            CAUTION:
                                                                Always adjust the timing belt tension with the engine
 2.   Inspect the timing belt for cracks and oil or coolant         cold.
      soaking.                                                      Do not rotate the crankshaft when the adjusting bolt
                                                                    is loose.
      NOTE:
        Replace the belt if oil or coolant soaked.            NOTE:
        Remove any oil or solvent that gets on the belt.        The tensioner is spring-loaded to apply tension to the
                                                                belt automatically after making the following adjust-
                                                                ment.
                                                                Inspect the timing belt before adjusting the belt ten-

                                 for wear.                      Always rotate the crankshaft clockwise when viewed
                                                                from the pulley side. Rotating it counter clockwise may
                                                                result in improper adjustment of the belt tension.

                                                              1.     Remove the left upper cover.

                                                              2. Set the No. 1 piston at TDC (see page 6-13).

                                                              3.     Rotate the crankshaft clockwise ten teeth on the
                                                                     camshaft pulley. The blue mark on the crankshaft pul-
                                                                     ley should line up with the pointer on the lower cover.




            Rotate pulley and
            inspect the belt.
