No. 2 VACUUM
Troubleshooting Flowchart HOSE
Inspection of IMRC System.
Check for vacuum at idle:
1. Start engine and allow it to
idle.
2. Remove No. 2 vacuum hose
from the IMRC diaphragm, and VACUUM PUMP/
connect vacuum gauge to the GAUGE, 0 - 30 in.Hg
hose. A973X - 041 -

Check for vacuum at IMRC vacu-
NO um Resorvoir:
Is there vacuum? Disconnect the No. 4 hose on
IMRC solenoid, and connect a IMRC

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the 6P connector
from the IMRC/engine mount
control solenoid valve assy.
3. Start engine and allow it to
idle.
4. Measure voltage between 6P
connector terminal No. 2 and
No. 5.

YES Replace the IMRC solenoid valve
Is there battery voltage?

Check for an open in the wire (IG1
line):
Measure voltage between 6P con-
nector terminal No. 2 and body
ground.

Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page 11-42 for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom goes away, replace the origi-
nal PCM.
Check the IMRC Solenoid Valve
YES 1:
Is there vacuum? Disconnect the 6P connector from
the IMRC/engine mount control
NO solenoid valve assembly.
YES Replace the IMRC solenoid valve

PCM CONNECTOR A (26P)
Check for vacuum at 4,000 rpm: Check for a short in the wire
1. Raise engine speed to 4,000 (IABSC1 line):
rpm. 1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Check for vacuum at No. 8 2. Disconnect the PCM connec-
vacuum hose. tor A (26P) from the PCM.
3. Check for continuity between
PCM connector terminal A20
and body ground.

YES Repair short to ground at wire
Is there continuity? between PCM (A20) and the 4P
connector.
NO
Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page 11-42 for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom goes away, replace the origi-
nal PCM.
Check the IMRC Solenoid Valve
YES 2:
Is there vacuum? Disconnect the 6P connector from
the IMRC/engine mount control
NO solenoid valve assy.
YES Replace the IMRC solenoid valve

Check for a short in the wire
(IABCS2 line):
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor A (26P) form the PCM.
3. Check for continuity between
IMRC system is OK. PCM connector terminal A22
and body ground.
YES Repair short to ground at wire
Is there continuity to ground? between PCM (A22) and the 4P
connector.
NO
Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page 11-42 for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom goes away, replace the origi-
nal PCM.
