When you read wiring diagrams:
q Read GI section, ``HOW TO READ WIRING DIAGRAMS''.
q See EL section, ``POWER SUPPLY ROUTING'' for power distribution circuit.
q See EL section for NATS information and wiring diagram.
When you perform trouble diagnoses, read GI section, ``HOW TO FOLLOW FLOW CHART
IN TROUBLE DIAGNOSES'' and ``HOW TO PERFORM EFFICIENT DIAGNOSIS FOR AN
ELECTRICAL INCIDENT''.
For clarification of system component abbreviations and terminology read GI section
``SAE J1930 TERMINOLOGY LIST''.

distance.
3) Adjust the antenna and feeder line so that the

q Always use a 12 volt battery as power 4) Be sure to ground the radio to vehicle body.
source.
q Do not attempt to disconnect battery cables
while engine is running.

ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTOR PUMP
q Do not disconnect pump harness connectors
with engine running.
q Do not disassemble or adjust electronic fuel
injection pump, except for the following
parts.
Camshaft position sensor (pump)
Injection timing control valve
Fuel cut solenoid valve
ECM PARTS HANDLING
q Handle mass air flow sensor carefully to avoid
damage.
q Do not disassemble mass air flow sensor.
q Do not clean mass air flow sensor with any type
of detergent.
q Do not disassemble No. 1 injection nozzle (built- WHEN STARTING ECM HARNESS HANDLING

q Keep ECM parts and harnesses dry.
q Before removing parts, turn off ignition
switch and then disconnect battery ground
cable.

PRECAUTIONS AND PREPARATION CD20T
Precautions
q Before connecting or disconnecting the ECM harness
connector, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect
negative battery terminal. Failure to do so may damage
the ECM because battery voltage is applied to ECM even
if ignition switch is turned off.
SEF289H
q When connecting ECM harness connector, open the
ECM
ports on harness connector, then meet the ports with the
pins on the ECM as shown. Push slider on harness until
it stops.

q When connecting or disconnecting pin connectors into
ECM
or from ECM, take care not to damage pin terminals
(bend or break).

Make sure that there are not any bends or breaks on
ECM pin terminal, when connecting pin connectors.

replacement.
MEF040D
q If MI illuminates or blinks irregularly during engine
running, water may have accumulated in fuel filter. Drain
water from fuel filter. If this does not correct the problem,
perform specified trouble diagnostic procedures.
q After performing each TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS, perform
``OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK'' or ``DTC (Diagnostic
Trouble Code) CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE''.
The DTC should not be displayed in the ``DTC CONFIR-
MATION PROCEDURE'' if the repair is completed. The
``OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK'' should be a good result
SAT652J if the repair is completed.

PRECAUTIONS AND PREPARATION CD20T
Precautions (Cont'd)
q When measuring ECM signals with a circuit tester, never
allow the two tester probes to contact.
Battery Accidental contact of probes will cause a short circuit
voltage and damage the ECM power transistor.
