Precautions for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT
BELT PRE-TENSIONER" EKS00403

The Supplemental Restraint System such as "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER", used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of
this Service Manual.
WARNING:
q To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death
in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be per-
formed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
q Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to per-
sonal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air
Bag Module, see the SRS section.
q Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harness connec-
     tors.

When you read wiring diagrams, refer to the following:
q Refer to GI-14, "How to Read Wiring Diagrams" in GI section.
q Refer to PG-3, "POWER SUPPLY ROUTING" for power distribution circuit in PG section.
When you perform trouble diagnosis, refer to the following:
q Refer to GI-10, "How to Follow Trouble Diagnoses" in GI section.
q Refer to GI-24, "How to Perform Efficient Diagnosis for an Electrical Incident" in GI section.

Also, smart entrance control unit has the "sleep/wake-up control" function. Smart entrance control unit puts
itself (the whole smart entrance control unit) to sleep under certain conditions to prevent unnecessary power
consumption. Then, when a certain input is detected, the system wakes itself up. For more detailed informa- F
tion, refer to BCS-30, "SLEEP/WAKE-UP CONTROL" .
INTERIOR LAMP/SPOT LAMP/VANITY MIRROR ILLUMINATION
                                                                                                                      G
The lamps turn off automatically when the interior lamp, spot lamp or/and vanity mirror illumination are illumi-
nated with the ignition key in the OFF position, if the lamp remains lit by the door switch open signal or if the
lamp switch is in the ON position for more than 30 minutes.
After lamps are turned off by the smart entrance control unit, the lamps illuminate again when: H
q Driver's door is locked or unlocked with remote controller, door lock/unlock switch or door key cylinder.
q Ignition switch is turned to ON.
q Door is opened or closed, I
q Key is inserted into ignition key cylinder.

Rear window defogger is turned off in approximately 15 minutes after the rear window defogger switch is
turned on.
CAN COMMUNICATION BCS
CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication line for real time application. It is an on-vehicle mul-
tiplex communication line with high data communication speed and excellent error detection ability. Many elec-
tronic control units are equipped onto a vehicle, and each control unit shares information and links with other L
control units during operation (not independent). In CAN communication, control units are connected with 2
communication lines (CAN H line, CAN L line) allowing a high rate of information transmission with less wiring.
Each control unit transmits/receives data but selectively reads required data only. M
