PRECAUTIONS
PRECAUTIONS PFP:00001
Precautions for Liquid Gasket EBS00G62
REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET SEALING
q After removing the bolts and nuts, separate the mating surface and remove the sealant using Tool.
Tool number : KV10111100 (J-37228)
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
q In areas where the Tool is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer
to lightly tap the areas where the sealant is applied.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason a tool such as a flat-bladed
screwdriver is used, be careful not to damage the mating
surfaces.
WBIA0566E
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper, remove the old sealant adhering to the mating
surface.
q Remove the sealant completely from the groove, mounting
bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Thoroughly clean the mating surface removing any adhering
moisture, grease and foreign material.
PBIC0003E
3. Attach the sealant tube to the Tool.
Tool number : WS39930000 ( -- )
q Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-43, "RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL
PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS" .
4. Apply the sealant without breaks to the specified location with
the specified dimensions using Tool.
q If there is a groove for the sealant application, apply the seal-
ant to the groove.
WBIA0567E
q As for the bolt holes, normally apply the sealant inside the
holes. Occasionally, it should be applied outside the holes.
Make sure to read the text of service manual.
q Within five minutes of sealant application, install the mating
component.
q If the sealant protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
q Do not retighten after the installation.
q After 30 minutes or more have passed from the installation, fill
the engine with the proper oil and coolant. Refer to MA-10,
"RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS" . SEM159F

Inspection EBS00G67
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
q Before starting the engine make sure the vehicle is parked on a LU
flat and level surface, then check the oil level. If the engine is
already running, turn it off and allow five minutes before check-
ing.
q Check that the oil level is within the low (L) and high (H) range C
as indicated on the dipstick.
q If the engine oil level is out of range, add oil as necessary. Refer
to MA-10, "RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS" . D
SMA954C
E
ENGINE OIL APPEARANCE
q Check engine oil for white milky or excessive contamination.
q If engine oil becomes milky, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with engine coolant. Repair or F
replace damaged parts.
ENGINE OIL LEAKAGE
G
Check for oil leakage around the following areas:
q Upper and lower oil pan
q Oil pan drain plug H
q Oil pressure sensor
q Oil filter
q Oil cooler I
q Water pump cover
q Timing chain tensioner cover
J
q Intake valve timing (IVT) control cover and intake valve timing (IVT) control solenoid valve
q Front cover
q Mating surface between cylinder block and cylinder head
K
q Mating surface between cylinder head and rocker cover
q Mating surface between the front timing chain case and rear timing chain case
q Mating surface between the front timing chain case and rear timing chain case L
q Crankshaft oil seal (front and rear)
ENGINE OIL PRESSURE CHECK
M
WARNING:
q Be careful not to burn yourself, as engine oil may be hot.
q Put the selector lever in the Park "P" position.
1. Check the oil level. Refer to LU-7, "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" .
2. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor harness connector.
3. Remove the oil pressure sensor.
Revision: September 2004 LU-7 2005 Quest
ENGINE OIL
4. Install Tools.
WBIA0571E
5. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
6. Check oil pressure with engine running under no-load.
Engine Speed Approximate Discharge Pressure
Idle speed More than 98 kPa (1.0 kg/cm2 , 14 psi)
2,000 rpm 294 kPa (3.0 kg/cm2 , 43 psi)
CAUTION:
If the difference is extreme, check the oil passages and oil pump for leaks and blockages.
7. After the inspections, install the oil pressure sensor as follows:
a. Remove the old sealant adhering to sensor and engine.
b. Apply thread sealant and tighten the oil pressure sensor to specification using Tool.
q Use Genuine High Performance Thread Sealant, or equivalent. Refer to GI-43, "RECOMMENDED
CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS" .
Oil pressure sensor : 14.8 N
