TRANSFER (VF3AM) - TRANSFER UNIT

REMOVAL
1. REMOVE TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER
(a) Remove the screw and disconnect the transfer shift lever
knob.
(b) Remove the upper console panel (See page BO-66 ).
(c) Disconnect the one touch 2 - 4 selector connector and re-
move the transfer shift lever knob.
(d) Remove the upper console panel garnish (See page
BO-66 ).
(e) Raise the vehicle.
(f) Remove the nut and washer, and disconnect the shift
control rod.
(g) Lower the vehicle.

(h) Disconnect the connector and remove the 8 bolts and
transmission shift lever assembly.

(i) Using pliers, remove the snap ring and pull out the trans-
fer shift lever.
HINT:
Shift the transfer shift lever to the "H" position and one touch 2
- 4 selector switch "OFF".
2. RAISE VEHICLE AND DRAIN TRANSFER OIL
3. REMOVE FRONT AND REAR PROPELLER SHAFTS

4. REMOVE DYNAMIC DAMPER
Remove the 2 bolts and dynamic damper from the transfer.

5. JACK UP TRANSFER SLIGHTLY
Using a transmission jack, support the transfer.
6. REMOVE NO. 3 CROSSMEMBER
(a) Remove the 4 set bolts of the engine rear mounting.
(b) Remove the 4 bolts, nuts and No. 3 crossmember.
7. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING
Remove the 4 bolts and engine rear mounting from the trans-
mission.
D04624 8. DISCONNECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR, NEUTRAL
POSITION SWITCH, L4 POSITION SWITCH, MOTOR
ACTUATOR, NO. 1 AND NO. 2 4WD POSITION SWITCH
CONNECTORS
9. DISCONNECT BREATHER HOSE FROM TRANSFER
10. REMOVE NO. 4 CROSSMEMBER
Remove the 4 bolts, nuts and No. 4 crossmember.

11. REMOVE TRANSFER FROM TRANSMISSION
(a) Support the transmission with another transmission jack.
(b) Remove the 8 transfer mounting bolts.
(c) Pull out the transfer down and toward the rear.
