DTC Always ON Malfunction in ECU
ABS Warning Light Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC No. DTC Detecting Condition Trouble Area
Either of the following 1., 2., 3. or 4. is detected:
S Battery
1. The ECU connectors are OFF the ECU.
S Power source circuit
Always ON 2. There is a malfunction in the ECU internal circuit.
S Charging system
3. There is a malfunction in ABS warning light circuit.
S ABS warning light circuit
4. IG1 terminal voltage is 7 V or below.
HINT:
TOYOTA hand-held tester may not be able to be used when the ECU is defective.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 Is DTC output?
Check DTC on page DI-259 .
YES Repair circuit indicated by the output code .
NO
2 Check that the ECU connectors are securely connected to the ECU.
NO Connect the connector to the ECU.
YES
3 Check voltage between terminals IG1 (56) and GND (29, 83) of skid control ECU.
ON PREPARATION:
Disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.

56 29 CHECK:
(a) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(b) Measure the voltage between terminals 56 and 29, 83 of
skid control ECU harness side connector.
OK:
(+) (-)
Voltage: 10 - 14 V

NG Check for open and short circuit in harness and
connector between ECU-IG fuse and skid con-
trol ECU (See page IN-31 ).

4 Check battery positive voltage.
CHECK:
Check the battery positive voltage.
OK:
Voltage: 10 - 14 V
NG Check and repair the charging system (See
page CH-2 ).
OK
5 Check the Tc terminal circuit (See page DI-351 ).
NG Repair or replace the Tc terminal circuit.
OK
6 Check operation of the ABS warning light.
In case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester:
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
(c) Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
CHECK:
Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the ABS warning light can be shown on the combination meter by the TOYOTA
hand-held tester.
In case of not using the TOYOTA hand-held tester:

PREPARATION:
(a) Disconnect skid control ECU connector.
(b) Using service wire, connect terminal WA (23) and GND1
(83) of skid control ECU connector.
(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
Check the ABS warning light goes off.

OK Check and replace skid control ECU.

7 Check ABS warning light.
See the combination meter troubleshooting on page BE-2 .
NG Repair or replace bulb or combination meter.
OK
8 Check for open circuit in harness and connector between combination meter
and skid control ECU (See page IN-31 ).
NG Repeir or replace harness or connector.
OK
Check and replace skid control ECU.
