DTC C0273 / 13 ABS MTR Relay Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The ABS MTR relay supplies power to the ABS & VSC actuator pump motor. While the ABS & BA & TRAC
& VSC are activated, the ECU switches the motor relay ON and operates the ABS & VSC actuator pump
motor.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
Start the inspection from step 1 in case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester and start from step 2 in case
of not using the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
1 Check ABS MTR relay operation.
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
(c) Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
CHECK:
Check the operation sound of the ABS MTR relay individually when operating it with the TOYOTA hand-held
tester.
OK:
The operation sound of the ABS MTR relay should be heard.
OK Go to step 4.
NG
2 Check battery positive voltage.
OK:
voltage: 10 - 14 V
NG Check and repair the charging system (See
page CH-2 ).

3 Check voltage between terminal 1 of engine room R/B No. 7 (for ABS MTR relay)
and body ground.
PREPARATION:
Engine Room R/B No. 7
Remove the ABS MTR relay from engine room R/B No. 7.
LOCK
CHECK:
Measure the voltage between terminal 1 of engine room R/B
No. 7 (for ABS MTR relay) and body ground.
1 OK:
Voltage: 10 - 14 V
(+) (-)
F12352 NG Check and repair harness or connector.

4 Check ABS MTR relay.
CHECK:
Check continuity between following terminals of MTR relay.

(Reference value 62 )

(a) Apply battery positive voltage between terminals 3 and 4.
(b) Check continuity between terminals.

5 Check continuity between terminal BM (2) of engine room R/B No. 7 (for ABS
MTR relay) and terminal MT (82) of skid control ECU.
Engine Room R/B No. 7 PREPARATION:
ABS MTR Relay Disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
CHECK:
2 Check continuity between terminal BM (2) of engine room R/B
No. 7 and terminal MT (82) of skid control ECU harness side
connector.
OK:
Continuity

NG Repair or replace harness.

6 Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between ABS MTR
relay and skid control ECU (See page IN-31 ).
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.

If the same code is still output after the DTC is deleted, check the contact condition of each con-
nection. If the connections are normal, the ECU may be defective.
