DTC C1208 / 54 Steering Angle Sensor Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC No. DTC Detecting Condition Trouble Area
Detection of any of conditions 1. through 7:
1. When the condition that ECU terminal IG1 voltage is 9.8
V or more, and does not receive data from steering
angle sensor continues for 0.1 sec. or more.
2. Sensor internal failure.
S Steering angle sensor
C1208 / 54 3. The offset value is out of range.
S Steering angle sensor circuit
4. Sensor signal change higher.
5. Steering angle value difference between measured and
reference is out of range.
6. Steering angle sensor is not centered.
7. Steering angle sensor signal is out of range.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
Start the inspection from step 1 in case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester and start from step 3 in case
of not using the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
1 Check output value of the steering angle sensor.
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
(c) Select the DATALIST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
CHECK:
Check that the steering wheel turning angle value of the steering angle sensor displayed on the TOYOTA
hand-held tester is appropriate when turning the steering wheel.
OK:
Steering wheel turning angle value must be appropriate.
OK Go to step 5.
NG
2 Check the steering angle sensor zero point.
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
(c) Select the DATALIST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.
CHECK:
Check whether steering angle sensor value is nearly equal to 0 degree when steering wheel is adjusted to
neutral.
NG Calibrate the steering angle sensor zero point
(See page DI-259 ).

3 Check the installation condition of steering angle sensor.
NG Repair or replace steering angle sensor (See
page SR-1 1).
OK
4 Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between steering
angle sensor, translate ECU and skid control ECU (See page IN-31 ).
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.
OK
5 Calibrate the steering angle sensor (See page DI-259 ).
NG Replace steering angle sensor.
OK
6 Is DTC still output?
Check DTC on page DI-259 .
NO No problem.
YES

7 Replace the ECU and check whether or not the trouble occurs again.
YES Replace steering angle sensor.
