AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The vehicle equipped with the VSC system:
The thermistor assy (Ambient temperature sensor) takes in the information of the outside temperature and
sends it as a signal to the ECM. The ECM transmits the signal to the skid control ECU as a communication
signal. Depending on the changes of the outside temperature, the ECU controls the tire pressure warning
system.
HINT:
The signal sent from the thermistor assy (ambient temperature sensor) is used in the A/C.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 CHECK DIAGNOSTIC CODE OUTPUT
(a) Check if the normal code is output by SFI system (See page 05-9 ).
Standard:
Normal code output.

2 CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY - ECM)
Brake Actuator Assy Wire Harness (a) Disconnect the brake actuator assy and ECM E4 connec-
Side Connector: S3 ENG+ tors.
(b) Measure the resistance between each terminal of brake
actuator assy and ECM wire harness side connectors.
Standard:
Tester connection Specified condition
S3-9 (ENG+) - E4-24 (ENG+) Below 1
S3-23 (ENG-) - E4-30 (ENG-) Below 1
ENG- NOTICE:
ECM Wire Harness Side Connector: As a water proof connector cannot be checked be from the
backside, check by connecting the sub-harness.
ENG+ (c) Measure the resistance between each terminal brake ac-
tuator assy wire harness side connector and body
ground.
Standard:
E4 Tester connection Specified condition
S3-9 (ENG+) - Body ground 10 k or higher
S3-23 (ENG-) - Body ground 10 k or higher

3 INSPECT ECM(ENG+, ENG- OUTPUT)
(a) Connect the brake actuator assy and ECM E4 connec-
tors.
E6 ENG+ E4 (b) Remove the ECM with connectors being connected.
(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(d) Using an oscilloscope, connect the terminal between
E4-24 (ENG+) and E6-1 (E1) of the ECM harness side
connectors.

Normal Signal Waveform (e) With the engine idling, check the output waveform.
Standard:
Signal waveform appears as shown in the illustration.
HINT:
As the vehicle speed becomes higher, the output waveform
cycle gets shorter.
GND (f) Using an oscilloscope, connect the terminal between
1 V / Division E4-30 (ENG-) and E6-1 (E1) of the ECM harness side
0.5 ms / Division F45157 connectors.
Normal Signal Waveform (g) With the engine idling, check the output waveform.
Standard:
Signal waveform appears as shown in the illustration.
HINT:
As the engine speed becomes higher, the waveform cycle gets
shorter.
