DIAGNOSTICS - TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
05BW8-04
PRE-CHECK
1. TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
(a) The tire pressure warning system warns decline of the tire air pressure to the driver. When the tire pres-
sure warning system detects the low air pressure which disturbs safe driving from any of 4 wheels, the
tire pressure warning lamp comes on.
HINT:
When the ignition switch is OFF, the tire pressure warning lamp goes off. However, when the ignition switch
is turned ON again, and the vehicle is driven at more than 30 km/h (19 mph), the tire pressure warning lamp
comes on again.
2. TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM PRECAUTION
(a) When the tire pressure warning lamp comes on, immediately check the air pressure of the tire and ad-
just it to the specified pressure (See page 28-1 ). When the ignition switch is turned OFF, the tire pres-
sure warning lamp goes off.
(b) This system needs initializing after changing tires or wheels and rotating the tires.
(c) In the following cases, the system does not operate normally.
S When vehicle speed is 30 km/h (19 mph) or less.
S When tires size is different from that which is specified.
S When tires of different sizes or types are used simultaneously.
S When the spare tire or snow tires are used, or when chains are used.
S When the vehicle is driven on unpaved, extremely rough or slippery roads.
S When one of the tires on the vehicle is extremely worn or new.
(d) When the run-flat tires are used, replace the tire if the pressure is 100 kPa (1 kgf/cm, 14 psi) or less.
(if the tire is reused, it could damaged.)
3. FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
(a) When a system malfunction occurs in the tire pressure warning system, the tire pressure warning lamp
blinks.
NOTICE:
If the malfunction returns to normal, the tire pressure warning lamp does not blink.
(b) The result of this diagnosis is stored in the skid control ECU.
4. TIRE PRESSURE WARNING DISPLAY FUNCTION
(a) Based on the tire pressure warning system condition, turn
the tire pressure warning lamp on as shown in the table.

5. INITIAL SETTING OF TIRE PRESSURE WARNING
SYSTEM
(a) Check and adjust the tire air pressure to the specified val-
ue (See page 28-1 ).
(b) With the vehicle stopped, turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Press the tire pressure warning switch until the tire pres-
sure warning lamp blinks 3 times at a 1 second interval.
(Continue pressing the tire pressure warning switch for

6. DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
(a) Inspect the battery voltage.
Battery voltage: 11 to 14 V
If voltage is below 11 V, recharge the battery before proceeding.
(b) Check DLC3.
The vehicle's skid control ECU uses ISO 9141-2 for com-
munication. The terminal arrangement of DLC3 complies
with SAE J1962 and matches with the ISO 9141-2 for-
DLC3
C52361 mat.
Verify conditions listed in table below:
Terminal No. Connection / Voltage or Resistance Condition
7 Bus + Line / Pulse generation During transmission
4 Chassis Ground to Body Ground / 1 or less Always
16 Battery Positive to Body Ground / 9 to 14 V Always
HINT:
If the hand-held tester display shows UNABLE TO CONNECT
TO VEHICLE when the cable of the hand-held tester is con-
nected to DLC3, the ignition switch is turned ON and the tester
is operated, there is a problem on the vehicle side or tester side.
S If communication is normal when the tester is connected
to another vehicle, inspect DLC3 on the original vehicle.
S If communication is still not possible when the tool is con-
nected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the
tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in
the tester's instruction manual.
7. CHECK WARNING LAMP
(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(b) With the ignition switch ON, the lamp should illuminate for
3 seconds and then go out.
HINT:
S However, during initialization, the tire pressure warning
Tire Pressure lamp comes on for 4 seconds.
Warning Lamp S If the tire pressure warning lamp has a defect, check the
tire pressure warning lamp output patterns (See the tire
Lamp Output Pattern: pressure warning lamp display function, step 4) and the
