HINT:
If the screen displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE after you have connected the cable of the
hand-held tester to the DLC3, turned the ignition switch ON and used the hand-held tester, there is a prob-
lem on the vehicle side or tester side.
S If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the
       original vehicle.
S If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem is
probably in the tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.

*1 In case that the "CAUTION" is displayed even without applying resistance in each range, there must be
a foreign object caught in that range.
*2 "0.0s" appearing on the display of the hand-held tester means that a 1-press of the satellite switch oper-
ates the power back door.

5. ACTIVE TEST
HINT:
Performing the ACTIVE TEST using the hand-held tester allows you to operate the relay, VSV, actuator,
etc. without parts removal. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to
shorten the labor time. It is possible to display the DATA LIST during the ACTIVE TEST.
(a) Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Perform the ACTIVE TEST according to the display on the tester.

6. BACK DOOR LOCK
(a) When the battery is reconnected:
The back door is locked and therefore cannot be opened. Therefore, it is necessary to unlock the back
door using the door control switch or transmitter switch.

                                                                                                       05-1755
DIAGNOSTICS - POWER BACK DOOR SYSTEM

7. RESET
(a) When the back door lock is replaced:
The power back door ECU cannot receive a switch signal from the lock. This may cause the power
back door system to enter fail-safe mode and DTC B2215 to set, and also make the system disabled.
When the lock is replaced, be sure to perform the following: first properly connect the lock, second clear
the DTC using the hand-held tester and finally recheck that no DTC is output.
(b) Reset the power back door system:
The power back door ECU records the fully open position and the fully closed position of the power
back door in its memory and the power back door fully opens and fully closed based on this memory.
The power back door cannot operate without this memory. In the case where the battery has been
removed, manually close the back door fully to reset the power back door system. However, if the bat-
tery is removed/installed when the back door is fully open, the power back door operates normally, thus
the resetting the system is unnecessary.
Replacing drive unit will also cause the memory of the door positions to be last. Therefore, in such a
case resetting the system is necessary.
Reset the power back door system as follows:
      (1) Fully close the power back door if opened.
      (2) Check that the back door fully open and fully close.
S Unlock the power back door using the transmitter switch or the door control switch.
S Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
S Check that the power back door main switch is in the "ON" position.
S Check that the back door fully open and fully close by pushing the power back door satellite
                  switch or PBD button briefly.
HINT:
The jam protection function is enabled through the above initialization procedure.
