HINT:
If the screen displays "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE" after you have connected the cable of the
hand-held tester to the DLC3, turned the ignition switch ON and used the hand-held tester, there is a prob-
lem on the vehicle side or tester side.
S If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the
       original vehicle.
S If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem is
probably in the tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tester's manual.

4. DATA LIST
HINT:
Using the DATA LIST displayed a the hand-held tester, you can read the value of the switch, sensor, actua-
tor, etc. without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to
shorten the labor time.
(a) Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Read the DATA LIST according to the display on the tester.
       Standard (Power back door ECU):
                                                                                                                                    Diagnostic

* "0.0s" appearing on the display of the hand-held tester means that a 1-press of the satellite switch oper-
ates the power back door.
5. ACTIVE TEST
HINT:
Performing the ACTIVE TEST using the hand-held tester allows you to operate the relay, VSV, actuator,
etc. without parts removal. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to
shorten the labor time. It is possible to display the DATA LIST during the ACTIVE TEST.
(a) Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Perform the ACTIVE TEST according to the display on the tester.
      Standard (Power back door ECU):
          Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
LATCH RELEASE Back door lock latch is release OFF/ON -

6. BACK DOOR LOCK
(a) When the battery is reconnected:
The back door is locked and therefore cannot be opened. Therefore, it is necessary to unlock the back
door using the door control switch or transmitter switch.
7. RESET
(a) When the battery is reconnected:
The back door is locked and therefore cannot be opened. Therefore, it is necessary to unlock the back
door using the door control switch or transmitter switch.
(b) Reset the power back door system:
The power back door ECU records the fully open position and the fully closed position of the power
back door in its memory and the power back door fully opens and closes based on this memory. The
power back door cannot operate without this memory. In the case where the battery has been re-
moved, manually close the back door fully to reset the power back door system. However, if the battery
is removed/installed when the back door is fully open, the power back door operates normally, thus
the resetting the system is unnecessary.
