DTC B1637/85 SHORT IN CURTAIN SHIELD SQUIB REAR
(LH) CIRCUIT (TO GROUND)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The curtain shield squib rear LH circuit consists of the airbag sensor assy center and the curtain shield airbag
assy LH.
The circuit instructs the SRS to deploy when deployment conditions are met.
DTC B1637/85 is recorded when a short to ground is detected in the curtain shield squib rear LH circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 CHECK FLOOR WIRE(CURTAIN SHIELD SQUIB REAR LH CIRCUIT)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Curtain Shield Floor Wire (b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the bat-
Squib Rear LH tery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
A Airbag (c) Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assy

center and the curtain shield airbag assy LH.

(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the
Center
C16 table below.

2 CHECK AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER
(a) Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assy center.
Floor Wire
Curtain Shield (b) Using a service wire, connect C16-1 (CL2+) and C16-2
Squib Rear LH (CL2-) of connector "C".
Airbag NOTICE:
D C Sensor S Twist the end of the service wire in order to insert it
C16 Assy into the connector.
CL2+ Center S Do not forcibly insert the twisted service wire into the
terminals of the connector when connecting.
CL2-
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery,
Service Wire and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at
least 60 seconds.
DTC B1637/85 (e) Clear the DTCs stored in memory (see page 05-777 ).
DLC3
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at
least 60 seconds.
CG TC (h) Check the DTCs (see page 05-777 ).

H10600 H11646 H42135 DTC B1637/85 is not output.
HINT:
Codes other than code B1637/85 may be output at this time, but
they are not related to this check.

3 CHECK CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG ASSY LH(CURTAIN SHIELD SQUIB REAR LH)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Curtain Shield (b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the bat-
Squib Rear LH tery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the service wire from connector "C".
Airbag
(d) Connect the connector to the curtain shield airbag assy
DC Sensor
Assy LH.
Center (e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery,
and wait for at least 2 seconds.
DLC3 (f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at
DTC B1637/85 least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear the DTCs stored in memory (see page 05-777 ).
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
CG TC (i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at

(j) Check the DTCs (see page 05-777 ).
OK:
DTC B1637/85 is not output.
HINT:

USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK (SEE PAGE 05-770 )
HINT:
S Perform the simulation method by selecting the check mode with the hand-held tester (see page
05-780 ).
S After selecting the check mode, perform the simulation method by wiggling each connector of the air-
bag system or driving the vehicle on a city or rough road (see page 05-780 ).
