DIAGNOSTICS - ENGINE (1GR-FE)
DIDUD-01
Cranking Holding Function Control Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The system detects the ignition switch's starting signal (STSW signal) and then supplies current to the starter
until the ECM judges that the engine has started successfully. The purpose is to reduce the holding time of
the ignition key.

2 Connect hand-held tester, and check STA signal.
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
(c) On the hand-held tester, enter the following menu: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST
/ ALL / STARTER SIG.
CHECK:
Read the STA signal on the hand-held tester while the starter operates.
OK:
Standard:
Ignition Switch Position ON START
STARTER SIG OFF ON
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.
OK
3 Check voltage between terminals STSW and STAR/NSW of ECM connector.
(a) Measure the voltage between the terminals of the E6 and
E5 ECM connectors, while cranking the engine (ignition
E6 E5 switch START position).
Standard:
Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
NSW (E6-8) - E1 (E5-1) 9 to 14 V
STSW (E5-12) - E1 (E5-1) 9 to 14 V
